Drive west along the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs ,stopping in Tinghir to walk into the narrow slit of Todra Gorge where canyon walls rise 300 meters overhead and cold river water runs between them. The fastest route is the FRS or Baleària ferry from Tarifa to Tangier Ville port — 35 minutes crossing. The Algeciras to Tangier Med port route takes longer and arrives at the new commercial port outside the city. Ferries run multiple times daily. Book in advance in July and August.
