On the road of our trip, you’ll make a stop at the busy little town of Asni. It is a buzz of activity as local Berbers ply to sell their produce, particularly on Saturdays – market day. Once in Ouirgane valley, your time is free to explore the village. Fed by the Oued Nfis from the Atlas, a perennial water source, the village is surprisingly verdant – a real oasis in the mountains.
In the Atlas Mountains, there is a Berber settlement called Ouirgane. It is located about one hour south of Marrakesh, the red city, at a height of 1500 meters above the ocean’s surface in the center of the Toubkal National Park. Like the surrounding landscape, the villagers are kind and will welcome you into their town.
In recent years, a dam was built creating a reservoir that adds to the visual appeal of the valley. If want to visit the local market, keep in mind that market day is Thursday in Ouirgane where the primary mode of transportation is donkeys.
