4 Days Morocco Desert Tour to Erg Chegaga

Day 1: Marrakesh – Atlas Mountains – Draa Valley – Zagora

Your Morocco Desert Tour to Erg Chegaga desert trip will start with an 8 am pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation. Winding up through the High Atlas Mountains, where the views are amazing, we will stop to take pictures.

We arrive at the door of Morocco’s Sahara Desert (Ouarzazate) for lunch. Later, we’ll leave to cross the Draa valley, the largest valley in Morocco being 1100 Km long at the foothill of the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

Along the way, you will see several palmeraies and Kasbahs. Dinner and an overnight stay await you at your accommodation in Zagora.

Day 2: Zagora – M’hamid – Erg Chigaga

After breakfast, we drive to M’hamid El Ghizlane passing by the village of Tamagroute where we will have the opportunity to visit the oldest Quranic libraries in the south of Morocco. We will also stop by the pottery factory. You will have lunch at a local Berber family’s in M’hamid.

In the afternoon, we continue our way to Erg Chigaga dunes crossing different features of the desert, including Erg Hamada Desertique.

Erg Chigaga dunes are far away from civilization where the silence of the sand is overwhelming. There, you will ride your camel across the dunes to enjoy one of the most stunning sunsets over the colored dunes.

You’ll have dinner under the stars next to a campfire while being entertained by local people. For the night, you’ll sleep at a camp.

Day 3: Erg Chigaga – Iriki – Foum Zguid – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, the road takes us through another 80 km of the desert with varying scenery. We first cross Lake Irki, the mountains and fossils following the old track of “Rally Paris Dakar” to Foum Zguid. It is the first village after the desert where the paved road begins.

After lunch, we continue to the Berber village of Taznakht, which is famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. Then, we arrive at Ouarzazate late in the afternoon.

Dinner and an overnight stay are scheduled to be at your accommodation in Ouarzazate.

Day 4: Ouarzazate – Telouat – Marrakech

After breakfast, we can visit the film studios outside Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa. Then, we’ll head to see the UNESCO world heritage site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. It was previously used as a set for more than 15 Hollywood including “Gladiator” “and “Lawrence of Arabia”.

Enjoy a walk to explore the traditional Moroccan style of architecture in which the Kasbahs are built. We continue our way to Marrakesh through the Ounila Valley and Telouat Kasbah where you’ll have lunch.
